Nagpur: In probably the first such move, CP Vishwas Nangre Patil has directed the police control room to contact every complainant after an FIR is filed in the city. The callers from the control room will record complainants’ experiences at police stations for every FIR being registered. The move is aimed at ensuring prompt and accurate filings of FIRs.According to the order, complainants will be asked whether police delayed the registration of the FIR, if the nature of the crime was altered to reduce its severity or any attempt was made to cover up the offence, and whether they were provided a copy of the FIR free of charge. The complainants will also be asked to share the names of the police officers who visited the scene of the incident or attended their complaints, said an official.

The feedback received will be incorporated into the daily crime report and submitted to senior officers for review and action. The CP made it clear that the directive must be followed strictly and any failure to provide the information will be considered a violation of the order, inviting disciplinary action. This citizen feedback mechanism is expected to act as a strong deterrent against procedural lapses and build greater public confidence in the police force, said a top official.Senior officials said the initiative reflects CP Nangre Patil’s vision of making city policing more responsive, technology-driven and people-friendly. “The direct call from the control room will give people the confidence that their voice reaches the topmost level and their cases will not be compromised,” remarked a city resident who filed a complaint recently. The new system forms part of a series of reforms introduced under the present leadership, including night nakabandi operations, AI-assisted crime detection, senior officers’ presence on the ground and daily hearing of citizens’ grievances from 3pm to 5pm.Police sources indicated that the collected feedback will not only help in monitoring station performance but will also contribute to the overall evaluation of officers and continuous improvement in service delivery.
