Ahmedabad: A 49-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was allegedly slapped by a man at the staff gate of Terminal 2 at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred while the officer was on duty between 2pm and 9pm.According to the complaint filed with Airport police station, the officer was posted at the international departure staff gate when a man wearing brown trousers and a grey T-shirt approached the entry point around 2.53pm. When asked to produce an entry pass, the man failed to show any authorization and stated that he did not have one.

Police said the CISF officer denied him entry without a valid pass. At this point, the man allegedly slapped the officer and attempted to flee. The officer chased and caught him with the help of other CISF personnel present there.The accused was taken to the police station and questioned. He identified himself as Mohammad Zakir Sheikh, a resident of Machhipith Market in the Rakhial area of the city. During questioning, he reportedly failed to provide a clear reason for his presence at the airport. Police contacted his brother using a mobile number available with him. The brother informed officers that Zakir left home around 10am without informing family members.Airport police registered an offence against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty and voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from performing his duty. Further investigation is underway.
