Hazaribag: Independence Day was celebrated across Chatra district with patriotic fervour on Sunday.Chatra deputy commissioner Ravi Anand unfurled the tricolour at the collectorate and later at the district-level function at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Anand and SP Animesh Naithany inspected a parade by police personnel, NCC cadets and school students.Addressing the gathering, Anand paid tribute to freedom fighters and martyrs. He said Independence Day was not only a celebration of freedom but also a reminder of citizens’ responsibilities towards nation-building. He emphasised transparency, good governance and ensuring that govt benefits reach every eligible person.Highlighting the district’s development record, Anand said 81,965 houses had been completed under PMAY-Gramin against a target of 82,985. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 1,44,024 rural households had received piped drinking water connections.He said around 1.91 lakh students at 1,569 schools had been provided free textbooks and notebooks, while 2,197 Ayushman Bharat beneficiaries had received treatment. A total of 1,78,501 beneficiaries received payments under the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana between April and July. Officials and employees were also honoured at the event.
