Chandigarh: Chandigarh will host more than 35 mayors from across the country Monday and Tuesday as the city stages the All India Municipal Mayors’ Conference, a platform for urban local bodies to exchange ideas on improving civic services and urban governance.Organised by the municipal corporation, the conference will be inaugurated by Punjab governor and UT administrator Gulab Chand Kataria. The event is being held under the theme, “Sashakt Nagar, Viksit Bharat”.Mayor Saurabh Joshi said representatives from cities across India will share successful initiatives and best practices in areas such as sanitation, water management, planned urban development, green spaces and digital governance.As the host city, Chandigarh will showcase its model of planned development, cleanliness initiatives, green cover, water management systems and technology-driven civic services. Municipal officials said the conference would also provide an opportunity for the city to learn from innovative projects being implemented elsewhere.The deliberations will focus on citizen participation, environmental sustainability, waste management, water conservation and the use of technology to make civic services more efficient and accessible.The conference is also expected to discuss ways to strengthen urban local bodies, improve coordination between elected representatives and officials, and build cleaner, greener and smarter cities.
