CHANDIGARH: Panic gripped parts of the city after a threatening email warning of bomb blasts at schools and key government locations, including the mayor’s office and the Secretariat, surfaced on Monday, prompting heightened security measures across Chandigarh. The email, sent to multiple recipients including educational institutions, claimed that explosions would take place at schools at a specific time, followed by threats targeting the mayor’s office and the Secretariat. It also warned of a grenade attack at “Chandigarh University Gandhi Bhavan” at 9.11 (am/pm not specified). St Stephen’s School, Sector 45; Ryan International School, Sector 49; and Shivalik Public School are among the institutions that received the emails. The message also contained provocative and alarming content aimed at creating fear among the public. Responsibility for the email was claimed by the “Khalistan National Army.” Soon after the threat came to light, the Chandigarh Police swung into action and intensified security across sensitive locations. Teams, including bomb disposal squads, dog squads, and local police units, were deployed to thoroughly check school premises and other identified areas. Officials said no suspicious object has been found so far, and an initial assessment suggests the email may be a hoax. However, authorities are not taking any chances and are following standard security protocols. Sources confirmed that a probe has been launched to trace the origin of the email, including tracking the sender’s digital footprint. Cyber teams are examining email headers and related technical details. Meanwhile, parents and school authorities have been advised to remain calm and vigilant. Security has been tightened as a precautionary measure, and movement around key institutions is being closely monitored.
