Jamshedpur: Two bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman while she was out on a morning walk in the New Baradwari area under Sitaramdera police station limits on Thursday. The victim, Taruna Jha, in her early 60s, said she was walking near her house when two youths on bike approached her from the front, snatched her chain and fled. She fell down while attempting to chase them.Sitaramdera police station in-charge Anand Mishra said that CCTV footage from the area was being examined to identify the perpetrators.Thursday’s incident is the fifth case reported in Jamshedpur between July 23 and August 13, raising concerns over the safety of women, particularly those out for morning walks.On August 1, two chain-snatching incidents were reported in the city. In the first incident, two bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman who was returning home after visiting an ATM in Sonari. Later that evening, another miscreant snatched a gold chain from a woman while she was having food at a roadside eatery on Jubilee Park Road under Bistupur police station limits.On July 31, a miscreant snatched a chain from a septuagenarian woman while she was out on morning walk in Sankosai under Ulidih police station limits in Mango. On July 23, bike-borne miscreants snatched a gold chain from a woman travelling as a pillion rider on ECC Road under Kadma police station limits. The woman suffered a fracture in her hand after the criminals shoved her when she attempted to catch them.However, the city police cracked the Ulidih chain-snatching case on August 3, arresting three people and recovering the stolen chain. In a separate chain-snatching case on Jubilee Park Road, police arrested two accused and recovered the stolen chain on August 6.
