Ramgarh: Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL), a joint venture between NTPC Limited and Jharkhand govt in Ramgarh district, is set to make the state not only self-sufficient but also power-surplus by around 600MW, enabling it to sell electricity to other states and spur industrial growth and employment generation.Talking to TOI, PVUNL chief executive officer (CEO) Ashok Kumar Sehgal said that unit-1 of the plant, with an installed capacity of 800MW, has been operational since Nov 5 last year and is already supplying 85% of its power to Jharkhand, as per the MoU between NTPC Limited and the state. “Unit-2 of the same capacity is ready for commercial operation,” he said.Sehgal added, “After unit-2 is declared under commercial operation, Jharkhand would get 85% power from two units of 1,600MW and the state would have above 600MW surplus power. The state would be able to sell surplus power to other states.”He further said that unit-3 of 800MW capacity, part of the phase-I project, is targeted to be commissioned within the next six months. Phase-I comprises three units of 800MW each, taking the total installed capacity to 2,400MW.“With the commissioning of unit-3, the state would get more surplus power and, in days to come, NTPC Limited and Jharkhand govt will jointly make the state self-reliant in terms of power,” Sehgal said.PVUNL, incorporated in 2015, took over the assets of the state govt’s Patratu Thermal Power Station (PTPS) in 2016. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid its foundation online in 2018.
