As part of its centenary year, Shri Ram College of Commerce hosted a nostalgic Alumni Meet that drew graduates back to campus after many years

With ’80s classics, old friends and nostalgia in the air, Shri Ram College of Commerce’s Alumni Meet welcomed graduates returning after decades. Part of the college’s centenary celebrations, the event featured a ceremonial buggy symbolising its legacy and traditional mashaals lit by alumni – the torchbearers of its heritage. SRCC’s Indian Music Society, Aarohan, set the mood with nostalgic hits like Yeh Shaam Mastani, Chala Jaata Hoon and Main Yahan Tu Kahan.

Students of the college performed Bharatnatyam to welcome alumni

‘This college taught us how to apply our knowledge’Retired Supreme Court of India Judge Arjan Sikri, Batch of 1974, said, “I’ve been coming here off and on, but today’s occasion is extraordinary as we celebrate 100 years. The college taught us not just knowledge, but how to apply it. It’s always wonderful to meet friends, batchmates and alumni from junior batches.”Echoing similar sentiments, Girish Ahuja, President of the Alumni Association and batch of 1965, said, “We gather every year on the second Sunday of February, but this year is special. I have many memories from college, but what stands out most now is that there were no sports and no female students in my time.”

‘Some students here have come back after 40 years’Sharing her delight, Prof Simrit Kaur, SRCC Principal, said, “If I say I’m immensely pleased, it would be an understatement. Students have returned to the college, several of them after 40 years!” Addressing the audience, she added, “Main jahaan khadi hoon, yahan se mujhe bahut se jugnoo dikh rahe hain. Aur aaj yeh keh sakte hain ki aasmaan ke sitare bhi yahi soch rahe honge kaash hum dharti par, SRCC ke jugnoo bann rahe hote,” Isha Gupta, class of 2006, visited the campus for the first time since graduating. “I’ve come back after 20 years. It feels like no time has passed. I remember we used to roam around the corridors and the verandah.”
