Kanpur: Chief development officer Abhinav Jain inspected the ongoing restoration work at Saibasi Lake in Sarsaul development block on Thursday. During the inspection, officials reviewed the progress and discussed measures for timely completion of the project.Representatives of Matsya Jivi Sahkari Samiti Limited — the nominated agency carrying out the restoration work — Rajneesh and Monu informed that the plan aims to develop Saibasi Lake into a fisheries and tourism destination. They said the work includes removal of water hyacinth from the lake along with desilting and deepening activities.Taking stock of the progress, the CDO directed the agency to increase the number of machines and manpower so that the work could be completed within the stipulated timeframe at the earliest. The executive engineer was also instructed to connect a small canal or nahar to the canal located at Rajapur to ensure adequate water supply to the lake throughout the year.The block development officer, Sarsaul and Gram Panchayat officials were directed to inspect works executed by the Zila Panchayat in previous years, including installation of street lights, interlocking roads, plantation drives and branding boards, and to rectify any shortcomings found during inspection as per rules.
