JALANDHAR: A CCTV footage captured the moment a man was killed after being hit by a train while crossing railway tracks and talking on his mobile phone near DAV Heart railway station in Jalandhar.The deceased, identified as Sukhwinder Kumar alias Tinku, died on the spot in the accident.The incident took place near the DAV Heart railway line, where Sukhwinder was reportedly walking along the tracks while speaking on his phone. The accident was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.Sukhwinder, a resident of Vijaypur in Jammu, had been living in Jalandhar for the past four years and worked as a vegetable vendor.The Government Railway Police (GRP) took his body into custody and sent it to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.Sukhwinder’s employer, Saurabh, said he owned a vegetable shop where Sukhwinder had been working for the last four years. He said Sukhwinder left the shop around 5.30 pm after finishing work and was heading home.“When he reached near the DAV Heart railway tracks, he received a phone call and was walking while talking on the phone. At the same time, a train approached from the opposite direction. People tried to warn him, but he could not hear them and was hit by the train,” Saurabh said.The impact of the collision proved fatal, and Sukhwinder died on the spot.GRP Head Constable Pritpal Singh said police received information through the control room about a person being hit by a train near the DAV Heart railway line.A police team reached the spot, took the body into custody and sent it to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination.Further action will be taken after recording the statements of the deceased’s family members.
