Chennai: The central bureau of investigation (CBI) has completed the first round of inquiry in connection with the murder of BSP leader K Armstrong, after taking over the investigation as per the Madras high court’s order.Armstrong’s wife Porkodi, his brother Veeramani and K Immanuel alias Keynos Armstrong were among the persons who were inquired. While the CBI team visited Porkodi at his residence for interrogation last week, the others were summoned to the CBI’s office to record their statements.CBI sources said that those who were closely related to Armstrong were inquired first as they were complainants, and appellants in the court seeking CBI probe. It maybe noted that Sembium police registered a case on Armstrong’s murder based on his brother Veeramani’s complaint since he was a witness to the murder and survivor of the attack.“The statements of the inquired will be processed to prepare the list of persons to be summoned for inquiry in the next round,” said CBI sources. Chennai city police has also been coordinating with CBI to aid them in the investigation.Armstrong, the then state BSP president, was hacked to death by a seven-member gang in front of his under-construction house in Perambur. City police had arrested 28 persons in connection with the murder. While history-sheeter Nagendran, one of the accused in the case, died in hospital in Oct 2025, K Tiruvengadam, another accused, died in a police counter on July 14, 2024.The special task branch of CBI registered a case in the first week of Aug after the Supreme Court quashed the appeal against the Madras high court’s order transferring the investigation to the central agency.
