Kendrapada: A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday allegedly for killing his 70-year-old mother in Patuni village under Kendrapada district’s Rajkanika police station on Saturday night. Accused Bijay Sahoo, who had returned home in an inebriated condition on Saturday night, first tried to assault his father Nabag han (74) in a fit of rage. Hyderabad: Jeevandan, Telangana’s flagship deceased organ donation initiative, is increasingly dependent on private hospitals, with govt institutions contributing only a fraction of the total donations and transplants recorded so far.According to official Jeevandan data up to 2025, private hospitals accounted for 1,710 organ donations – nearly 28 times higher than the 61 donations recorded by govt hospitals, including NIMS, Osmania, Gandhi and ESIC. Overall, private hospitals contributed nearly 97% of total organ donations under the programme.The disparity is also reflected in transplant numbers. Dharmapuri: A govt bus overturned at Chennampatty near Morappur in Dharmapuri district on Sunday, injuring several passengers including a pregnant woman.The bus which was heading from Dharmapuri to Harur was carrying 70 passengers, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.Locals promptly rescued all passengers, and alerted Morappur police who carried out rescue operations.Those injured were rushed to the Morappur Government Primary Health Center and the Harur Government Hospital for treatment.A case has been registered and further inquiry is on. Mangaluru: A police constable from Urva police station on night rounds near Narayan Guru co-operative society at Kodikal Urwa was allegedly attacked after attempting to stop a two-wheeler for inspection on Sunday. According to police, the two people on the vehicle initially drove away rashly to evade checking. However, they later returned to the spot and allegedly assaulted the constable, leaving him with minor injuries. A case has been registered under sections 121(1), 109, 132 and 3(5) of the BNS. Bokaro: Giridih police on Saturday seized around 19 kg of silver bars worth around Rs 50 lakh from a car during a vehicle-checking drive and detained two occupants for questioning.Officer in-charge of Town police station Ratan Kumar Singh said that acting on a tip-off that a car transporting a huge quantity of silver had entered Giridih town, police personnel set up checkpoints and intercepted the suspicious vehicle.
