Kollam: Excise department on Saturday seized over 6kg of ganja and arrested a suspected key supplier during an inspection in the city.The seizure was made by a team led by excise inspector P Shankar at Mekone junction around 10.25pm. A total of 6.050kg of ganja, allegedly smuggled in a car for sale, was recovered during the operation. The arrested person was identified as Alshad S, 33, a native of Kilikollur village in Kollam. Kolkata: Bengal panchayat minister Pradip Mazumdar placed the Panchayat (Amendment) Bill in state assembly on Saturday, which stipulates that panchayat office-bearers cannot be removed from office before three years. Earlier, this period was two-and-a-half years, reports Debashis Konar.The bill states that no meeting for the removal of senior panchayat members, including pradhan and upa-pradhancan be convened within a period of three years from date of election. Bengaluru: A day after the Criminal Investigation Department’s cybercrime command cell cracked down on over 40,000 mule accounts in various parts of Karnataka, investigators have found that the accused facilitated transactions worth at least Rs 100 crore over the past two years. Hyderabad: Around 16 students fell ill after having dinner at the integrated SC girls’ hostel in Bellampalli on Friday night. The students were immediately shifted to govt hospital in Bellampalli, where they were provided medical treatment. Ahmedabad: A suspected case of parcel tampering has unravelled into an organised e-commerce fraud spanning Gujarat and Rajasthan. Five persons from Jalore, Ahmedabad and Surat have been arrested by the city crime branch. According to police, the gang allegedly infiltrated delivery networks. The accused allegedly ordered expensive electronics through fake accounts and intercepted consignments during transit.
