New Delhi: National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked MCD to explain how it plans to clear all legacy waste at the Ghazipur landfill by Dec 2027 when fresh untreated waste continues to be added to the dumpsite every day.During a hearing on July 6, MCD told the tribunal that 69 lakh MT of legacy waste exists at the Ghazipur landfill site, and this is likely to be cleared by Dec 2027.The bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava and expert member Afroz Ahmad took up MCD’s submission which said east Delhi generates 2,200-2,400 MT of municipal solid waste daily.…

Chennai: Tambaram city municipal corporation has cleared about 2.7 lakh tonnes, nearly 45%, of the six lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste accumulated at Appur landfill under its ₹36-crore biomining project.The corporation, spread across 70 wards in five zones, generates about 450 tonnes of municipal solid waste daily. Around 2,000 sanitary workers and 400 garbage collection vehicles are deployed for waste management operations.Officials said about 100 tonnes of waste collected daily from Perungalathur zone is segregated, with biodegradable waste sent to composting centres and the rest routed through Kannadapalayam transfer station. Ranchi: Jharkhand Jaguar’s Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) on Friday carried out an extensive search at a mall on Ratu Road after an email threatened to blow up the passport office located on its premises.The email, sent on Wednesday, had threatened explosions at passport offices across the state.The BDDS, along with local police, searched the mall, including offices and shops on all floors, as well as the outer areas and parking lot.
