Mohali: Mohali police rounded up 10 to 11 suspects, recovered 20 grams of heroin and seized four to five motorcycles with unverified ownership during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) conducted across sensitive pockets of Kharar, Derabassi, Zirakpur and Mohali.As part of the anti-drug crackdown, police registered seven cases under the NDPS Act and arrested seven accused. The operation was carried out under the supervision of SSP Varun Sharma, with police teams conducting house-to-house searches and verification drives in identified vulnerable areas.The searches covered Deh Basti and Mubarakpur in Derabassi, Harmilap Nagar and Baltana in Zirakpur, Bangla Basti and Mundi Kharar in Kharar subdivision, besides wards 34, 35 and 36 under City-2 division.Police verified the identities and antecedents of suspicious persons using the police verification application and checked vehicles. Several motorcycles whose ownership or documents could not be immediately established were seized for verification.In the City-2 area, seven NDPS cases were registered, leading to the arrest of seven accused and recovery of 20 grams of heroin. Besides those booked under the NDPS Act, around three to four persons were taken into preventive custody for failing to satisfactorily explain their identity or presence in the area. Police said further investigations were underway.SSP Varun Sharma said anti-drug operations were being intensified across the district and similar checking drives would continue in sensitive locations to curb drug trafficking and other criminal activities.
