Mangaluru: Barke police station has registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by the Mangaluru City Corporation city planning officer, regarding the illegal dumping of construction debris into the Phalguni River near Sulthan Bathery.In a complaint filed on Friday, the city planning officer stated that large quantities of construction debris and soil was dumped into the Phalguni River near Sulthan Bathery between April 2 and April 7. The dumping was reportedly carried out using a vehicle within the jurisdiction of Barke police station.The official stated that approximately 15 to 20 cents of govt land was encroached upon by filling the river area with construction debris and soil. Mangaluru City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said that a case has been registered against the president of Mogaveera Mahasabha and the owner of the lorry at Barke police station under sections 324 (5) and 329 (3) of the BNS, along with sections 2 (a) and 2 (b) of Karnataka prevention of destruction and loss of property act.While the lorry used to dump the debris into the river has been seized, further investigation into the case is currently underway, the commissioner said.
