Hyderabad: Based on a complaint given by civil supplies authorities, Bhongir rural police registered a criminal case against five persons of a rice mill for allegedly misappropriating ₹24 crore worth of paddy stocks.Police said that civil supplies officials entered into an agreement with Yadadri Rice Industries for stocking and delivering customised milled rice. During physical verification, officials found that 6,776 metric tonnes (MT) of paddy was missing in the mill. After failing to get a convincing reply from the concerned mill owners, a complaint was lodged on Friday.Police registered a case against five persons under sections 316(2)(Criminal Breach of Trust), 318(3)(Cheating) of BNS.

“The enforcement staff conducted a detailed physical verification in the presence of witnesses. During verification of records and physical stock relating to rabi 2024-25, it was found that 10,318 MT of paddy had been allotted to the mill, against which 6,969 MT of milled rice was required to be delivered. However, only 2,468MTs of rice had been delivered till the date of inspection, leaving a balance paddy stock of 6,688.8 MTs to be available. But only 160 MTs of paddy was available and no rice stock was found on the premises of rice mill,’’ the officials said in their complaint.
