Ludhiana: Encroachments by food carts along the boundary wall of the Government Industrial Training Institute (Women) on Rani Jhansi Road have sparked safety and hygiene concerns among students and faculty. The illegal vendors create a congested and uneasy atmosphere, particularly during the institute’s entry and dispersal hours. “The crowd around these carts is discomforting for students. Many feel hesitant while entering or leaving, which disrupts the disciplined environment we strive to maintain,” said Principal Amandeep. The situation is worsened by stray dogs drawn to leftovers from carts selling chicken and eggs. Faculty members noted that these animals frequently wander onto the campus, posing a safety risk. “The dogs feed on waste thrown outside and then enter the premises, creating fear among students and raising sanitation issues,” a staff member said.Despite repeated written and verbal complaints to the municipal corporation, no action has been taken. The principal alleged that vendors claim political patronage to resist removal. “Despite multiple requests, they have not moved,” he added.Students also complained of noise, littering, and restricted movement at the main gate. The institute, which currently trains 168 women in vocational trades like sewing, embroidery, fashion technology and computer graphics, requires a secure learning environment that staff say is being compromised. The administration has urged authorities to clear the area immediately to ensure a conducive atmosphere for the students.MC chief Neeru Katyal said she has not received any complaints in the matter, but strict action would be taken.
