Guwahati: A car allegedly hit a minor, leaving the child injured, on NH-36 in Nagaon before fleeing the scene; police later intercepted it after a 40-km chase.The incident occurred at Dhowa-Haldhiati on Tuesday night when the vehicle, reportedly travelling from Karbi Anglong towards Kathiatoli, allegedly hit the minor and continued without stopping.Police and members of the public pursued the car towards Nagaon. It was intercepted at Nonoi after allegedly colliding with several vehicles. Police arrested two occupants, whose names have not been disclosed.The vehicle reportedly continued for several kilometres on a damaged tyre, travelling on its metal rim. An agitated crowd later surrounded and vandalised it, causing extensive damage. The injured minor was taken to a hospital.Nonoi Police Patrol Post in-charge Tarali Bora said, “I received a call from Kathiatoli Police that a vehicle was approaching Nonoi after hitting multiple vehicles. I created a road blockade. The vehicle, which the Kathiatoli police were chasing, was approaching without the front tyres. Somehow, the vehicle stopped at the spot where I created the blockade.”Police are investigating the accident, the alleged attempt to flee and the subsequent collisions.
