The impact was so strong that many mistook it for an earthquake

Gurgaon: A parked car was severely damaged after a 7×14-foot portion of the basement ceiling collapsed in the B-1 parking of Adani Oyster Grande residential society in Sector 102A on Sunday night, raising concerns over the structural safety of the complex.Heavy concrete and plaster crashed onto the vehicle, caving in its roof and shattering its windows. Fortunately, no one was present near the car. Residents present in the parking area heard a loud cracking sound and rushed to safety just in time. The impact was so strong that many mistook it for an earthquake. Thick dust engulfed the basement within moments, and several other vehicles were also damaged. The incident has sparked outrage among homeowners, who have questioned the construction quality of the project. They said the complex is only six years old, yet the ceiling has already collapsed, expressing concern over how such structural damage could occur in a relatively new building. Residents worry about the long-term safety of their homes. They also pointed out that the parking area is often used by families and children, making the incident even more alarming.RWA vice president Alka Malhotra said residents who invested crores of rupees in the project now feel unsafe and let down. She said the incident has raised serious concerns about the building’s structural integrity and that residents are demanding accountability and a comprehensive structural safety audit to ensure such an incident does not happen again.A resident, Kamal Malhotra, claimed that the agency which manages the society’s maintenance refuses to fix structural problems unless residents bear the cost through maintenance funds. After Sunday’s collapse, he said the developer sent representatives to seal off the area and announced that a formal tender would be floated for repairs — but warned the process could take time.
