A vehicle caught fire at the Old Bus Stand area of Batamaloo on Tuesday evening after flames reportedly spread from a nearby garbage dump, officials said.
They said the State Fire Control Room Batamaloo received a distress call and immediately rushed fire tenders to the spot.
“On arrival, firefighting teams found a BMW 320d bearing registration number UP16AB0909 on fire. The vehicle was parked outside a mechanic workshop at the time of the incident,” officials said.
According to preliminary reports, the fire originated from a heap of garbage lying close to the vehicle and subsequently spread to the car.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel promptly launched a firefighting operation and managed to bring the blaze under control in time. Their swift action prevented the fire from spreading to other vehicles parked nearby, averting a potentially major loss.
No injuries were reported in the incident. Authorities said the exact cause of the fire is being ascertained.
