Surat: The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the customs department on Wednesday seized marijuana worth Rs 6.40 crore from passengers arriving at Surat International Airport from Bangkok. Two persons were arrested and further investigation is underway.Based on passenger profiling, the customs team intercepted Vinod Kumar and Kamlesh Dhanka for checking. During examination of their luggage, officials found 30 vacuum-packed packets containing suspicious material. The suspects failed to give a satisfactory explanation.The packets contained a green substance weighing around 6.40 kg. Samples were sent for testing and forensic analysis later confirmed it to be marijuana. The accused subsequently admitted to carrying the contraband.This is the third major seizure linked to Bangkok–Surat flights in recent days. On February 9, customs officials recovered 3.7 kg of hydroponic ganja, valued at around Rs 3.75 crore, from a Bangkok–Surat flight. Earlier, on February 8, the AIU arrested four persons and seized hydroponic ganja worth around Rs 6 crore.
