Patna: RJD chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav on Thursday demanded that the results the 2025 assembly elections be cancelled and declared null and void. He alleged that the Election Commission (EC) failed in its role as a “referee” and the ruling NDA secured victory by distributing large sums of money among voters. He said the demand for cancellation of the 2025 assembly polls was justified, claiming that the Supreme Court, in a recent order, observed that “gifts and freebies” should not be announced by govts on the eve of elections. The RJD leader further alleged that the EC’s conduct in Bihar favoured the ruling NDA. He claimed that during the assembly elections in Telangana, the EC had stopped the distribution of free gifts, citing violations of the Model Code of Conduct, but allowed similar practices in Bihar.Yadav also referred to the cancellation of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s election in June 1975 on grounds of violation of election norms. He argued that since there were alleged violations of election norms and provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, during the recent Bihar assembly elections, the results should be annulled. The NDA, he alleged, not only “captured booths” but also “influenced” voters through inducements in the form of free gifts, while the EC failed to act impartially.
