Canacona: Locals flagged multiple issues at the Canacona community health centre (CHC) during health minister Vishwajit Rane’s visit on Friday. Rane inspected the facilities at the CHC and reviewed conditions in the wards along with local MLA Ramesh Tawadkar.Locals submitted a memorandum to Rane seeking urgent improvements in medical services, staff attendance and basic amenities. The representation stated that gaps in services are causing daily hardship to in-patients and regular visitors.Key demands included introducing a biometric attendance system for doctors and staff to ensure punctuality and accountability, and enforcing a 9am start for the OPD, which residents claimed often begins around 10am or later. The memorandum also called for consultants to report on time, compulsory daily ward rounds by the physician, and the immediate transfer of a health officer alleged to be negligent.Residents sought adequate doctor postings at all rural medical dispensaries in Canacona taluka and suggested reopening of OPDs in the old hospital building, which is currently vacant, after completing pending repairs and renovation to reduce overcrowding.Infrastructure issues highlighted included the need for a permanent drainage system, a dedicated water supply for the dialysis unit with an immediate pump installation, urgent repairs to defective electrical systems, and restoration of the elevator after thorough inspection.
