Kolkata: The Jadavpur University inquiry commission that has been formed to probe the Aug 19 and Aug 20 clashes and vandalism has issued a public notice inviting statements along with video footage and photographs from anyone who has the knowledge of the incidents within 10 days. The documents need to be submitted to Pranab Kumar Haldar, junior superintendent of the JU law section, and secretary of the inquiry commission at Aurobindo Bhavan.The panel is headed by HC retired judge Pranab Chattopadhyay along with professor Soumendu Chatterjee, director, IQAC, Presidency University as the other external member. JU official Sumanta Jana is the presenting officer and Halder is the secretary to the commission.The public notice said that the panel will probe the “untoward incident” and “the clash between two groups that occurred on the main campus of JU”. It further read, “A group of unidentified persons/outsiders forcibly and unauthorisedly entered the university campus and engaged in violent activities, vandalism, and destruction of university property… Accordingly, any person or persons/organisation having direct knowledge regarding the untoward incident that occurred on Aug 19 and 20 is requested to submit a written statement and/or video records/photographs, etc, within 10 days.”The commission held its first meeting on Thursday on JU’s Salt Lake campus from 11.30 am to 1 pm and it was decided that the panel would issue a public notice inviting statements along with video footage and photographs. The next meeting of the commission is scheduled on Sept 15.
