The Calcutta High Court has permitted the filing of two PIL petitions concerning the gang rape at South Kolkata Law College. Advocates Sauma Subhra Ray and Vijay Kumar Singhal, who previously filed petitions in the RG Kar case, are the petitioners.

KOLKATA: Calcutta High Court granted permission to file two public interest litigation (PIL) petitions on the gang rape incident at South Kolkata Law College on Monday.The petitioners, namely Advocate Sauma Subhra Ray and Vijay Kumar Singhal, are the ones who filed petitions in the high court on the RG Kar rape and murder case.Ray, in his petition, stated that the incident at the law college was not a “spontaneous crime of opportunity” but a “premeditated and politically motivated” plan.Vijay Kumar Singhal, in his petition, pleaded that the Special Investigating Team (SIT) set up by the state to probe the complaint should have a retired judge of the high court as SIT chairman. Singhal also urged for beefing up security on the college campus.A division bench of Justice Soumen Sen and Justice Smita Das De allowed the petitioners to file the PILs.
