Guwahati: The Assam State Drivers’ Union has announced concessional fares for passengers travelling to Zubeen Kshetra for singer Zubeen Garg’s first death anniversary programme. The special fares will be available from 5 am to 5 pm, with cabs stationed in Khanapara and nearby areas. Participating vehicles will carry photographs of Garg as a tribute.“The fares would be kept substantially lower than the regular rates, with drivers charging an amount just to cover their fuel and related basic running costs. For instance, if a regular cab journey to Zubeen Kshetra would cost around Rs 800, passengers may be charged between Rs 300-400 under the special arrangement,” said Abdul Kadir, general secretary of the ASDU.The concession will apply only to passengers travelling to Zubeen Kshetra and not to other destinations or regular cab journeys. The union said the initiative would help fans and admirers reach the memorial site during the designated hours.“The service will be provided by members of the Assam Commercial Drivers’ Association along with other registered cab drivers, who will offer concessional fares to passengers heading to the venue,” Kadir said.
