Noida: The Greater Noida West metro project is set to reach a crucial milestone, with the Union Cabinet expected to approve the long-awaited corridor this month. The approval will pave the way for tendering and construction of the project, which is expected to benefit nearly five lakh residents.Noida CEO Krishna Karunesh said all the required no-objection certificates (NOCs) for the project had been obtained. “The detailed project report (DPR) is with the PMO. We hope the cabinet gives its approval this month. Following this, a tender will be issued to appoint a developer,” he said.Currently, residents in the area have limited public commute options and largely depend on road-based transport for commuting.In July, the Public Investment Board (PIB) cleared the proposed 8.4km elevated corridor from Noida Sector 51 to Greater Noida West Sector 4. The project, estimated to cost nearly Rs 2,000 crore, will have five stations and is expected to be completed in four years.The corridor will have stops in sectors 61, 70, 122 and 123 in Noida, and Greater Noida’s Sector 4 near Gaur Chowk. Officials said the line will ease commuting for residents who currently face snarls while passing through the heavily congested Gaur Chowk area.Initially, the project was proposed as an 18-km corridor from Delhi Metro’s Sector 61 station on the Blue Line to Knowledge Park V in Greater Noida. The original alignment was set to pass through Noida sectors 70, 122 and 123, Greater Noida Sector 4, Ecotech 12 and Sectors 2, 3, 10 and 12.While the state govt approved the alignment in 2024, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) withheld its approval pending a decision on the proposed 72-km Ghaziabad-Jewar rapid rail corridor via Greater Noida West. The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) later revised the DPR.In July, the Centre also approved two other NMRC projects — the Aqua Line extension from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden and the Depot-Boraki corridor. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been awarded the work for both projects.At present, the Aqua Line connects Noida Sector 51 with Depot station in Greater Noida. According to July 2026 data, the corridor records an average daily ridership of around 61,811 passengers.
