T’puram: The state cabinet sanctioned a slew of measures, including compensation for shop owners affected by the landslide at Meppadi in Wayanad.Shops that were completely destroyed will receive compensation of Rs 7 lakh per shop, regardless of the shop’s type or structure. If a shop owner has lost more than one shop, additional compensation of Rs 2.5 lakh will be provided for each additional shop. Entrepreneurs will receive compensation for restarting their businesses, which will be either 50% of their incurred loss or a maximum amount. This includes Rs 20 lakh for the manufacturing sector, Rs 10 lakh for service sector and Rs 7 lakh for trade. The funds for compensation will be allocated from chief minister’s distress relief fund to Wayanad district collector, said an official statement.

The other decisions included approval for formation of ‘Kottoor Elephant Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre Society’ to operate the centre and sanctioning of 65 posts for Kannur International Ayurveda Research Centre for first phase work. TNN
