Howrah: A student of chartered accountancy was swept away into the river as the bank of the Rupnarayan river collapsed. Police reported that he was a resident of Sarsuna, Kolkata. Although locals quickly began searching, the missing young man could not be found. The incident occurred on Thursday night. Later, even after the disaster management team started searching, there was no trace of him by Friday evening.According to cops, the youth’s name is Chandan Khara, 28. His maternal uncle’s house is in Benapur. The mishap happened while he was standing by the riverbank, talking on the phone on Thursday night. Locals reported that the riverbank in Benapur became a new tourist spot, attracting hundreds of visitors every evening. Many saw him standing and talking on phone by the river. They later heard the sound of something collapsing and noticed that the young man was no longer visible on the riverbank. Suspecting that he might have been swept into the river, some residents attempted to search for him in the water, but he was not found. They then informed the police, and officers from Bagnan PS arrived.Despite deploying divers, the police could not locate him. The disaster management team arrived on Friday morning and also began searching the river. By Friday evening, there was still no sign of the youth.His uncle, Ananta Roy, mentioned that his nephew was an intermediate-level CA student and was also working as an intern at a CA firm. He came to spend the weekend at his house.
