Bengaluru: A family’s festive trip to Kodagu turned into a nightmare after a burglar broke into the locked house of a retired soldier and fled with 100 grams of gold jewellery and 350 grams of silver articles.The incident came to light after tenants living on the first floor alerted the family that the bedroom door of their house had been broken open from the balcony side.Muthanna KB, 53, a retired havaldar currently working with Namma Metro, and his family had been residing in Bidarahalli, Bengaluru East taluk, for three years. On Aug 16, he and his family left for their native Kodagu around 5.30am to attend a festival and a friend’s housewarming ceremony.While the family was away, their tenants sent photographs to Muthanna’s wife’s mobile phone of the broken door. Muthanna and family returned from Kodagu on the night of Aug 18 and found the doors of the house and cupboard had been broken and several gold and silver jewellery items were missing.The stolen ornaments included a gold hook, necklace and earrings set, bracelet, three pendants, four finger rings, two necklaces. The burglar also made away with silver jewellery, including a chain, two bracelets, two pairs of anklets and a necklace.A senior police officer said the suspect covering himself with a shawl was seen loitering near the house between 4am and 4.30am.Couple returns home from outing, finds Rs 3 lakh missing from cupboardAn outing to Vidhana Soudha to enjoy Freedom Habba preparations proved costly for a couple. They returned home to find Rs 3 lakh kept in a cupboard had been stolen.Arbaz Khan, a resident of Muneshwaranagar in Devarajeevanahalli, north Bengaluru, said he and his wife left home around 6pm on Aug 14. They returned at 1am and noticed the door had been left open.However, after checking inside the house and finding nothing amiss, the couple assumed they had not locked the door properly and went to sleep.The following day, around 8pm, Khan’s in-laws asked him for money. When he opened the cupboard to get cash, he was shocked to find Rs 3 lakh kept inside missing.Suspecting theft, Arbaz alleged thieves had got in through a window, opened the door from inside and stole cash from the cupboard.
