Ranchi: The Budget session of the Jharkhand Assembly began on Wednesday with the customary address by Governor Santosh Gangwar, who highlighted the state govt’s efforts to promote development and economic prosperity while maintaining harmony with nature.In his 40-minute speech, the governor outlined several flagship schemes aimed at benefiting women, youth, farmers and other sections of society. He emphasised the govt’s commitment to maintaining law and order through a zero-tolerance policy.

“Continuous action to eliminate Left Wing Extremism is being carried out on a priority basis,” he said. Citing achievements in tackling cybercrime, he said that in 2025, 1,268 accused were arrested in 1,413 cases, and more than Rs 111 crore of defrauded money was blocked through the national helpline 1930. “As many as 54 public servants were also arrested on graft charges,” he added.The governor said the state is actively promoting investment at global platforms. “For the first time, Jharkhand participated in the World Economic Forum at Davos to attract investments and explore sustainable development models in sectors such as green energy, critical minerals, tourism, higher education and manufacturing. Meetings were also held in the United Kingdom, including London, and investment proposals worth approximately Rs 1.27 lakh crore have been received so far,” he said.To boost MSMEs, the Jharkhand MSME (Special Concessions) Act, 2025 has been implemented, and the single-window system is being strengthened.“Through 229 recruitment camps and 85 employment drives, 12,576 youth secured jobs. Migration Assistance Centres have been set up in seven states to support migrant workers,” he said.Following the establishment of Software Technology Parks in Ranchi, Sindri and Deoghar, efforts are underway to further strengthen the state’s digital mission for improved governance and employment generation. He also highlighted pro-people initiatives across agriculture, tourism and other sectors.Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, in his opening remarks, said the session will continue till March 19, comprising 17 working days. The govt will present its annual Budget for the next fiscal on Feb 24.Customary condolence references were also made by the Governor, Speaker, chief minister Hemant Soren and other members on the occasion.
