Budgam, Sep 05 : The Municipal Council Budgam has directed all telecom and cable operators, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and other agencies involved in laying and maintaining fibre optic and cable networks to remove extra, unused, abandoned and loosely hanging wires from roads, electric and telecom poles, buildings and other public places within the municipal jurisdiction.
In a notice issued by the Chief Executive Officer, Municipal Council Budgam, the concerned operators and agencies have been asked to undertake necessary removal and rectification work within 14 days from the date of issuance of the notice.
The Municipal Council said it has observed a large number of unnecessary and unutilized fibre optic and cable wires hanging from poles and along roadsides at various locations. Besides creating an unsightly appearance, the improperly arranged cables are causing obstruction to public movement and may pose potential safety hazards.
The MC Budgam has directed all concerned operators to remove extra, unused and abandoned cables from their respective network routes and properly arrange, bunch and secure all operational wires.
The operators have also been asked to use suitable clamps, ties or other approved methods to ensure that cables remain tightly secured and do not hang loosely over roads, footpaths, public places or municipal infrastructure.
The Council further directed the agencies to ensure that all operational cables are properly aligned and maintained so that they do not cause inconvenience, obstruction or any potential risk to the general public.
The notice warned that failure to comply with the directions within the stipulated 14-day period would invite appropriate action under the applicable provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Act, 2000, and other rules and by-laws in force.
The Municipal Council said it may remove unauthorized, abandoned or improperly laid wires and cables at the risk and cost of the concerned agency or operator, without issuing any further notice.
The MC Budgam urged all concerned stakeholders to take the matter seriously and ensure timely compliance, stating that the initiative is aimed at improving public safety, cleanliness and aesthetics, while ensuring the proper management of municipal infrastructure within Budgam town.
