Guwahati: Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) deputy speaker Bijit Gwra Narzary was found hanging in the bedroom at his Kumarikata residence in Tamulpur on Wednesday.Police launched an investigation into the death of Narzary, a BJP leader and elected representative from Darrangajuli council constituency. He had earlier been associated with Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front before joining BJP.“His body was found hanging in the bedroom of his residence. The exact circumstances surrounding his death will become clearer once the autopsy report is received,” a senior police officer told TOI on Thursday.An autopsy was conducted at a govt hospital in Baksa district on Thursday. Sources said Narzary’s security personnel were present on the residential campus when the incident occurred.The BTC observed Thursday as a local holiday in its jurisdiction as a mark of respect.CM Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed sorrow over Narzary’s death. “His contributions to society and public life through long years of dedication and devotion will always be remembered. This loss is irreparable. Praying for the eternal peace of his departed soul, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family and his well-wishers,” Sarma wrote in a social media post.Narzary’s mortal remains were brought to the BTC secretariat in Kokrajhar, where BTC chief executive member Hagrama Mohilary and others paid tribute.“There would be an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the incident,” Mohilary said. “We will meet and discuss whatever help can be provided to his family, whether from the party or the govt,” he added.
