Lucknow: The Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences (BSIP) on Friday launched a weekly radio programme, ‘Kahani Dharti Ki – Jahan Dharti Bolegi Aur Ham Sab Sunenge’, to bring earth science research to the public in a simple language.Unveiled on the eve of National Science Day, the programme, starting Mar 3, will be aired from 3-4pm every Tuesday on radio KGMU Goonj 89.6 MHz. It will also be available for global listeners on mobile app.Releasing the poster, BSIP director Prof Mahesh G Thakkar said the programme aimed at bridging the gap between research and society by narrating the stories of earth’s evolution.Topics will include dinosaurs, mass extinctions, volcanic eruptions, climate change, and human evolution.Echoing this outreach focus, executive head of radio KGMU Goonj, Prof KK Singh, described understanding evolution and climate shifts as crucial to addressing present environmental challenges.Building on the theme of wider participation, Arvind Mathur from Awadh Vigyan Bharati stressed inclusivity in science and the role of radio in reaching rural audiences, remarking that science grows with participation.Programme coordinator Nimish Kapoor said BSIP scientists would directly engage with listeners, explaining how fossil and geological evidence help decode the planet’s past and shape a sustainable future.
