Jhansi: The Anti-Corruption Unit of Jhansi on Thursday arrested a clerk in the BSA office in Lalitpur after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 for clearing the arrears of an 82-year-old retired teacher.According to officials, the complainant, Madanmohan Namdev, had visited the BSA office several times to get his pending arrears cleared.However, the accused clerk, Rajesh Namdev, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5,000 from him. The complainant subsequently lodged a complaint with the anti-corruption team in Jhansi, following which a trap was laid.On Thursday, the complainant went with Rs 5,000 treated with chemical powder and handed the money to the accused. The anti-corruption team subsequently arrested the accused and seized the tainted money.Inspector Shadab Khan said the accused would be brought to Jhansi after a case is registered against him in Lalitpur and would be produced before a special magistrate.
