New Delhi: Southern regional parties Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and YSR Congress Party have punched holes in the bill. Speaking to ET, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said, “There is no mention of a 50% increase in seats as was discussed at the all-party meeting called by the government. The bill clearly links delimitation exercise with the last 2011 Census. It is a matter of grave concern… If delimitation exercise is linked to the latest census, it means rewarding states that did not implement India’s policy. What kind of perverse logic is this?” Rao said adding that this will lead to a big revolt in South India.YSRCP said it supported women’s reservation but the delimitation exercise would need to respect not just nation-wide proportionate increase but also regional balance within the state. YSRCP MP PV Midhun Reddy said, “There should be a proportionate increase in Uttara Andhra, coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.”
