The Brazil national football team will face India in a friendly at the Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium (Salt Lake Stadium) in Kolkata on October 3, the Brazilian football federation (CBF) announced on Thursday.
With Brazil currently ranked fifth in the world, this fixture will mark the highest-ranked opposition India has faced since the FIFA World Ranking was introduced in 1992.
Before coming to India, Carlo Ancelotti’s side is scheduled to take on Australia at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville on September 25 before facing the Socceroos again four days later at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
“After the friendlies in Australia, our next destination will be India, where we will write an unprecedented chapter in our history. The national team will take the field for the first time on Indian soil,” the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said in a statement.
“It will be a special encounter with a country that hosts the largest international fanbase of the Brazilian national team and that, for generations, has followed the history of Brazilian football with immense affection and passion.”
For the Selecao, these matches will kickstart preparations for the next cycle, starting with the 2028 Copa America and followed by the 2030 World Cup.
“Against India, there is the technical aspect and a great deal of gratitude to the Indians, who showed enormous affection and support for the Brazilian national team during the World Cup. So it is only fair that we go there as a way of thanking them, but also to put on a great performance,” Rodrigo Caetano, the General Coordinator of CBF’s men’s national teams, expressed.
