Hisar: Brahmin representatives from Hisar district on Saturday demanded the implementation of the Haryana govt’s plans for a Brahmin Welfare Commission and official recognition of Lord Parshuram’s birth anniversary.During a special meeting at Brahmin Dharamshala, Haryana Brahmin Mahasabha president Pt Jile Singh Picholia said a 151-member delegation would soon meet chief minister Nayab Singh Saini to press for implementation of the demands.The meeting was chaired by Brahmin Sabha president Pt Rattan Lal Sharma.Picholia said the CM announced a Brahmin Welfare Commission and official observance of Lord Parshuram’s birth anniversary on Dec 14, 2024, but neither had been implemented yet, causing resentment in the community.The state body also announced plans to hold a large-scale Brahmin Mahasammelan in Nov 2026, where, according to Picholia, Brahmins from Haryana and other parts of the country would participate. He said the organisation planned to build a 60,000-member network, with committees comprising 151 members at the state level, 51 at the divisional level, 31 at the district level, 21 at the block level and 11 each at village and ward levels.A 21-member advisory panel comprising retired IAS, IPS and HCS officers, other senior retired officials, prominent members of the community, saints and senior officers would also be constituted, he said.The meeting approved a seven-point agenda, including implementation of the proposed Brahmin Welfare Commission and official celebration of Lord Parshuram’s birth anniversary, changes in the reservation system, a uniform legal framework, ending govt takeover of Hindu temples, amendments to the Hindu Marriage Act, simplifying laws relating to Doyli land, and restoration of the EBPG quota along with increasing the EWS quota from 10% to 20%.
