Noida: Botanical Garden in Sector 38A has been undergoing a major revamp. Officials say that the upgrade will take two more years. For now, signboards hang on its green gates prohibiting entry to visitors. Scientist-in-charge Sandeep Chauhan said “The visitors’ entry was closed in Jan last year and will remain so until the upgradation work is done.” Different zones according to forest types, tropical, subtropical and tropical moist, are being developed under a 490-crore plan. The authorities will add trellis garden, discovery garden, bonsai section, curious plant section, garden of senses, aquatic garden, and an area for cacti, succulents, palms and wild edible fruits and vegetables. They will also develop an administrative building and an interpretation centre. The aim is to make this Botanical Garden a world-class conservation site.Botanic Garden of Indian Republic or simply Botanical Garden was established in 2002 by the ministry of environment, forest and climate change on 164.85 acres . It has served as a nodal centre for conservation research and environmental education.The garden maintains a herbarium and at present houses over 1,500 specimens of flowering plants (angiosperms) apart from various kinds of trees, herbs and shrubs from different parts of India.
