Nagpur: A 48-year-old cloth trader was allegedly assaulted at his shop within Tehsil police station limits after he failed to clear a pending cricket betting amount of Rs50,000, police said. Vishnukant Agarwal told Tehsil police that he had been placing bets with one Vicky Mishra, a resident of Panjra on Koradi Road.Agarwal claimed he had already paid Rs6 lakh to the bookie. When he failed to pay the remaining Rs50,000, Mishra, two of his brothers, and a 50-year-old bouncer allegedly arrived at the shop on Aug 31.According to the complaint, the four men abused Agarwal and beat him. Mishra is alleged to have struck him on the ribs with an iron rod before the group fled. Agarwal was taken to Mayo Hospital for treatment. Mishra and one of his brothers have been arrested by Tehsil police.A case was registered under sections relating to voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult, and common intention, among others.Police said the assault took place on Aug 31 at the complainant’s shop in Gandhibagh area. The complaint was registered in the early hours of Sept 1. Investigators are also examining the alleged betting transactions that preceded the attack.
