Mumbai: Bombay High Court has upheld the cancellation of a student’s engineering admission after finding that the CET scorecard relied upon by him had been altered or fabricated.The student had secured provisional admission on June 23 to a BTech Renewable Energy Engineering programme at a private university in Pune. The university later found discrepancies in the scorecard and cancelled his admission.The student moved the HC, claiming the scorecard had been downloaded from the CET website. A division bench of Justice Farhan P. Dubash and Justice R I Chagla directed the State CET Cell to verify the records.In a supplementary report, the CET Cell said the student’s actual percentiles were 7.8474707 and 13.5482364 in the two attempts, not 78.874707 and 73.5482364 as reflected in the documents submitted by him.The court said there was no reason to disbelieve the CET Cell and held that the scorecards had not been generated by it. The bench observed that manipulation of marks or scorecards strikes at the integrity of the admission process and is unfair to students competing on the basis of their actual performance. The petition was dismissed and the cancellation of admission upheld.Data leak? 4.5L CET candidates personal details found with admission agentsPersonal details of about 4.5 lakh CET candidates are alleged to have surfaced with admission agents, prompting allegations of a data leak. The CET Cell has denied finding evidence that the information leaked from its systems and says the circulated data does not match its records. The source of the data remains under question. NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar also raised the issue publicly.
