Bomb threat email triggers massive security sweep at Secretariat

Chandigarh: Security agencies launched a massive search operation at the Punjab and Haryana Civil Secretariat after an e-mail threatening to blow up the building was received on the day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the city.According to the police, the threatening e-mail was received at the Secretariat control room by CISF sub-inspector Manoj Kumar, who alerted senior officials. Following the alert, Chandigarh police, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), dog squad, fire and rescue services, civil defence, district crime cell, operations cell, traffic police and personnel from the Sector 3 police station rushed to the Secretariat complex.The entire premises were secured as security personnel carried out a comprehensive search of the building. Offices, corridors, parking areas, public spaces and other sensitive locations were checked. Entry and exit points were also placed under enhanced surveillance, and access to the complex was closely monitored.The threat came at a time when Chandigarh was already under heightened security due to the Prime Minister’s visit. Officials said the bomb threat was treated with utmost seriousness and a multi-layered security response was activated to rule out any potential danger.After an extensive search lasting several hours, no explosive material or suspicious object was found inside the Secretariat complex. Officials, however, said the threat was not being dismissed and that an investigation was underway to determine its origin.
