Kanpur: The body of a 17-year-old girl who drowned while bathing in the Ganga at Gudar Ghat in Bithoor was recovered on Friday afternoon.The deceased, Muskan, had gone for a holy dip in the Ganga on Thursday along with her two friends. The trio accidentally ventured into deep water and started drowning.Locals present at the ghat jumped into the river and rescued two of the girls, but Muskan went missing.Police arrived at the spot and launched a search operation, but she could not be traced.Her body was recovered nearly 24 hours later, about 3 km from Gudar Ghat.Locals alleged that the spot where the girls were bathing lacked adequate barricading and visible police deployment.DCP West S.M. Qasim Abidi said it was being ascertained which personnel had been assigned duty at the ghat. “If negligence on the part of any police personnel came to light, action would be taken against them,” he said.
