Bokaro: The body of a 17-year-old boy who drowned while bathing in Garga Dam under the Balidih police station was recovered on Thursday with the help of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team, officials said.The deceased was identified as Golu Kumar, a resident of Jhopdi Colony in Bokaro. According to police sources, the teenager had gone to the dam on Wednesday afternoon along with five to six friends for an outing.During the visit, the group decided to take a bath in the dam. While bathing, Golu moved into a deeper portion of the water body and began to struggle. His friends attempted to rescue him but were unable to reach him in time, following which he went missing in the water.On receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Balidih police station reached the spot and initiated a search operation with the help of local residents. However, the initial efforts to locate the boy were unsuccessful.District disaster management officer (DDMO) Shakti Kumar said, “The NDRF team was subsequently called in to assist with the search operation. After several hours of search on Thursday, the team recovered the body from the dam.”
