Kolkata: Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is scurrying to repair damaged roads across Salt Lake, taking up work on multiple stretches simultaneously, to meet the Mahalaya deadline.Repairs of several stretches on the main thoroughfares near Baisakhi, Karunamoyee and around Salt Lake stadium are yet to be completed, with sudden unseasonal rain having further delayed work. This has led to traffic congestion as vehicles are slowing down to avoid the bumps and potholes.Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is assisting BMC in the work. A total of 22 stretches have been identified in Salt Lake where the damaged bituminous asphalt layer will be replaced with concrete pavers. Some of the stretches that have been repaired include the stretch from Tank 13 to Anindita bus stop, the main road at GD Block and the stretch in front of the CGO complex. On some stretches, like the one from CK-CL Island towards canal side road, the authorities have dug up the damaged road surface and will relay it with concrete pavers. On lanes inside blocks, the authorities are relaying the damaged stretches with bitumen mastic asphalt. In New Town, NKDA will take up repairs of several stretches.
