Mumbai: The functioning of the BMC’s Insecticide Department came in for criticism at the Standing Committee meeting, with members pointing out that fumigation and anti-larval treatment at mosquito breeding sites across the city are not being carried out properly.Members said the department does not have enough fogging machines and that many of the available machines are defunct. Corporators also pointed out that wards do not have adequate supplies of chemicals and machines, while many construction sites are being left untouched without any action being taken.Corporators claimed dengue patients are being reported in every ward. Members pointed out that earlier, a timetable was prepared indicating the wards where fumigation would be carried out, but this practice is not being followed now.Members also sought an increase in the frequency of fogging operations.
