Nagpur: Stepping up its attack over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, City Congress president Praful Gudadhe on Wednesday alleged that around 500 BJP office-bearers and workers from outside Nagpur were unofficially participating in Election Commission’s voter verification exercise and operating from Hyderabad House, which houses the CM’s Nagpur secretariat.Addressing a news conference, Gudadhe claimed the workers were initially accommodated at MLA Hostel and were being transported every day in six buses to different Assembly constituencies across the city, where they allegedly assist in voter verification despite having no authorised role in Election Commission’s exercise.As per Gudadhe, after completing the field work, the workers allegedly report to Hyderabad House. He claimed the arrangement had been continuing for nearly a month. “The administration must explain under what authority they are there and what role they are playing,” Gudadhe alleged.The city Congress chief said the party submitted a memorandum to Nagpur collector Ashiwad Kumar seeking a detailed inquiry “but did not receive satisfactory answers”.Demanding transparency, Gudadhe urged the district administration to make available CCTV footage of MLA Hostel and Hyderabad House.BJP did not immediately respond to the allegations. Election authorities maintained that SIR is being conducted strictly in accordance with EC’s guidelines through authorised election machinery.“Revision of electoral rolls was an independent and impartial exercise of the Election Commission and that the participation of political party workers would undermine public confidence in the process,” Gudadhe said.
