Hassan: Belur taluk unit of the BJP has alleged that the FIR registered against local MLA HK Suresh in connection with trader Nagesh’s suicide was politically motivated and urged Hassan SP Shubhanwita to personally lead the investigation.Speaking to reporters Thursday, Belur taluk BJP unit president Sanjay Gowri, town unit president Vinay and other leaders questioned the circumstances surrounding the allegations against the MLA and demanded an impartial probe. The BJP leaders said Nagesh’s wife, Nalinakshi, had initially stated in her complaint that the dispute over the key to Shop No. 3 of the municipal council was one of the factors causing him distress. She had also reportedly mentioned that Nagesh had accumulated debts of around Rs 40 lakh through loans from banks and private lenders to support his family and maintain his coffee plantation.Unable to repay the loans, Nagesh allegedly died by suicide at his residence on Oct 12, they said. The leaders claimed that a subsequent complaint accused certain municipal officials and the MLA of harassing Nagesh. They expressed suspicion that others could be behind the allegations and demanded a detailed investigation.According to the BJP, Nagesh had bid Rs 4.5 lakh for the municipal shop, with the amount rising to Rs 5.3 lakh, including GST. However, he had not signed the required agreement despite notices from municipal officials, following which the shop was locked. The BJP leaders maintained that the MLA had no role in the matter and demanded that the investigation be conducted under the SP’s supervision.
