Madikeri: Coffee plantations in Kodagu have been affected due to the rain when the coffee beans are budding. BJP’s Raitha Morcha demanded the govt and the district administration to aid the farmers by announcing a compensation for them.A team led by BJP Raitha Morcha Kodagu district unit president Ammunichand Ranji Poonacha surveyed the coffee plantations in various parts of the district. The team covered areas including B Shettigeri, Bittangala, Birunani and Srimangala in South Kodagu, checked the amount of damaged coffee beans and discussed their problems with the farmers.Kodagu district BJP Raitha Morcha vice president Chodumada Dinesh and secretary Alemada Sudhir, who visited the plantation at Theethimada Lala Bheemaiah of Kongana village, found that the plantations are damaged due to the rot disease, and 60 to 70 plants per acre have been affected by the disease, leading to the financial loss of farmers, said Ammunichand Ranji Poonacha. He appealed the govt to consider the plight of the farmers and provide compensation.He also added that a comprehensive report will be prepared and submitted on the crop loss. He demanded that the people’s representatives must take special interest in this matter and ensure that the farmers are compensated properly.
